Remember the objective of your portrait . . . a beautiful sensitive image which captures the relationships and personalities of each person, yet stands the test of time. Faces and expression are the most important elements, for this reason keep the clothes simple. Be careful not to dress anyone in an outfit that is not an expression of their personality or that they don't want to wear. What you want to avoid is having any one person "stand out" in relation to the others. Work for a balance of harmony between the outfits chosen. Assemble the outfits on your bed . . . stand back and if you are pleased with what you see you will be very pleased with the feel of your final portrait. For beach portraits we recommend soft pastel tops with long sleeves, sleeveless on the ladies can make the arms look large. Khaki colored skirts for ladies and long khaki pants on the men are most popular, light shorts on the younger children look great.
